Baker’s Floor and Surface completes concrete floor makeover at San Jose High School
Polished concrete can transform any room from dull and lifeless to dazzling and beautiful. Baker’s Floor and Surface was recently part of a building modernization at Independence High School in San Jose. Their 1,200 square foot ticket booth room, located in Building B1, was in desperate need of a new concrete floor. Baker’s was hired to grind, polish, and stain the existing concrete. The final result was a non-slip, shiny surface that was not only modern, but extremely pleasing to the eye.

Grinding Phase
During the grinding phase, we use a 1,200 pound planetary grinder to level, smooth, and clean the concrete’s surface. Grinding the concrete also helps remove existing paint, epoxy, and carpet glue. Simply grinding the concrete makes a huge difference in its appearance. But, it’s just a base. There’s so much more we can do to improve your existing concrete!
Polishing Phase
When we polish your concrete, it becomes more durable and easy to clean. A high gloss can actually change the appearance of your concrete all on its own. Polished concrete doesn’t chip or dent and has a very long life expectancy – over 100 years! Although polished concrete can stand on its own, the next step creates an even more unique and customized look.
Staining Phase
Concrete is enhanced even further when a stain is applied to a polished surface. Stains and dyes come in many different shades and colors. Acid stains tend to come in soft earth tones like tans, terra cottas, and blue-green. Acrylic stains come in more colors and shades, including black and white.
