Metal Sandpipes get a Makeover

See how Baker’s refinished lifeless metal and transformed it back to its original glory

Air pollutants, weather, humidity, and moisture are some of the most common reasons metal rusts, tarnishes, and become dull and lifeless. Metal on the outside of buildings in San Francisco are also susceptible to additional wear and tear due to the salty coastal air.

Baker’s Floor and Surface recently completed a metal refinishing job at a large office building on Kearney Street in San Francisco. This particular job required a number of steps before the metal was restored to its original luster and shine. Before we started the work, we taped out the necessary areas so our work would not affect the rest of the building. Then, we stripped the existing finish using specially formulated removers. We then removed scratches from the metal using an abrasive technology. Once the metal was smooth and free of debris, we feather grained the metal to match the existing adjacent areas. The metal was then cleaned using selected bronze cleaners. Finally, we rinsed the metal and applied three coats of clear metal protective lacquer. When the job was complete, we left the work area clean, orderly, and free of the debris that accumulated during the refinishing process. Remarkably, this entire job was completed in one day!
