The high-rise buildings in San Francisco are exposed to a variety of environmental elements including water (acid rain, fog), wind (erosion), salt, ultraviolet rays, and extreme changes in temperature. Over time, these elements cause bright metal surfaces to fade, bleach, and burn. Graffiti, vandalism, and normal “big city” wear and tear can also affect the aesthetics of a building’s concrete and metal surfaces.
Baker’s Floor and Surface recently completed various metal and concrete projects at a San Francisco high-rise. These projects included removing unwanted marks and scratches from both concrete and metal surfaces and refinishing those surfaces to match the existing concrete and metal.
For the concrete portion of the project, we first taped all necessary areas, created a custom color blend, and suspended color in compatible sealer, polish, or epoxy. Next, we sprayed the concrete surface with an HPLV sprayer and allowed it to dry. Finally, we hand painted in aggregate coloring and applied a second coat of clear sealer.
The metal portion of the project first required us to remove scratches using an abrasive technology. Then, we feather grained the surface to match the existing adjacent areas. We cleaned the surface using stainless steel cleaners and then rinsed and applied a stainless steel micro-sealer to preserve and condition the surface. When the metal and concrete jobs were complete, we left the work area clean and orderly, free of the debris that tends to accumulate during the refinishing process.
