Baker’s Floor and Surface are renowned for their metalwork. We’ve successfully completed metal refinishing and restoration projects throughout the Bay Area. Recently, we finalized a metal refinishing project at a large office complex in Palo Alto. The building’s property manager, Orchard Commercial, Inc., wanted to turn the building’s dated polished mirror bronze into an updated and visually appealing brown patina.
The Project
For this project, our team refinished:
- One elevator
- Three elevator exteriors on three floors
- Main building entrance (inside and out)
- Stairwell handrails
The Process
Before applying the new patina, we needed to take the polished mirror bronze and sand it down to a satin/flat bronze. This process required the oxidizer to penetrate evenly and adhere to the surface. Then, we applied the oxidizer evenly in one direction. Finally, we applied a clear coat of lacquer to the surface. The lacquer can create a flat or shiny sheen to the metal, depending on our client’s preference. This particular client wanted a sleek and modern-looking flat finish.
